Chapman Stables Condominiums – Washington, DC
christopher consultants is providing engineering and landscape architecture services to Studio27 Architecture for the renovation and addition to the existing Historic Chapman Coal Company Garage and Stables building for use as a residential apartment building. The apartment building, which will contain 114 rental units, will consist of a one-story addition with a mezzanine above the historic building, as well as a five-story addition connected to the rear of the historic portion of the building. The project will also include one level of below-grade parking. Project efforts include concept site planning, site demolition plans, design development plans, SWM/BMP, preparation of construction documents, construction administration and landscape architecture services.
The Chapman Stables yard was built in stages between 1906 and 1916 and served as a coal yard, stable and garage. It is a designated historic landmark. The project has undergone review and approval by the Historic Preservation Review Board.
