VRE King Street Pedestrian Tunnel – Alexandria, VA
christopher is providing surveying services as a sub-consultant to Gannett Fleming for this Task Order for design and construction management services for the Alexandria King Street Tunnel Project under the VRE General Engineering Contract (GEC) VI. This was the final step for the construction of a new pedestrian tunnel from the mezzanine of the King Street Metro Station to the VRE Alexandria Station. The tunnel will improve pedestrian and ADA access, eliminate at-grade track crossing and upgrade the eastern VRE Amtrak platform.
christopher’s surveying division provided an existing conditions survey which included the research and the necessary field efforts to establish the existing boundary of both the Alexandria King Station and the WMATA rail corridor. In addition, christopher’s survey team provided a full topographic field survey of the property and the surrounding roads and included a 3D scan of the mezzanine level of the WMATA Station. In conjunction with this field survey, the field team provided detailed rail cross-sections for the north and south bound tracks that can be used for future plans to raise the rails to connect with a potential new rail station.
During the design process, the surveying division will provide plat preparation and processing services to both the City of Alexandria and WMATA. This will include meeting with the stakeholders, coordinating the intent of the design from the multiple team partners and working with the land use attorneys for approval and recordation services.
