Smithsonian’s National Zoo – Washington, DC
christopher consultants provided surveying and construction stakeout services at the Washington National Zoo during the development of the Asia Trail. This project created a trail through the area of the Zoo housing seven Asian species, including sloth bears, fishing cats, clouded leopards and the popular pandas. In keeping with the Zoo’s commitment to conservation of the natural environment, the Trail features sustainable design strategies such as green roof systems, solar hot water systems, and natural paving material. christopher surveyors set horizontal and vertical controls for animal housing, utilities and lighting. christopher surveyors also provided construction stakeout services.
The Smithsonian National Zoo is part of the Smithsonian Institution, a group of 19 museums and galleries, the National Zoological Park, and nine research facilities. The zoo is located on 163 acres inside of Rock Creek Park in Northwest DC, and is home to over 2,000 animals of nearly 400 different species. The zoo welcomes up to two million visitors each year. Admission to the zoo is free and open to the public every day of the year except Christmas Day.
