NVCC Bulkhead Repair – Annandale, Virginia
christopher provided entitlement services, preliminary and final civil engineering design, permitting services, topographic surveys, construction stakeout and construction phase services and acceptance for the repair of the NVCC Bulkhead. christopher also managed the activities of the structural designer, environmental and wetlands permitting consultants.
This project involved designing and constructing a water bulkhead at the Woodbridge campus of the Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC). The existing bulkhead, built in 1975, used an asbestos-coated sheet pile held back by steel rods. These steel rods failed allowing the bulkhead to move towards the lake. This project redesigned the bulkhead and new retaining system, to establish this public space. A new pile and retaining system have been installed. A new safety railing will be provided along the water’s edge along with new landscape planters. The project was designed, bid and constructed within three percent of the project budget and was completed on schedule.
