Metropolitan Police Department 6th District HQ (Merritt Middle School Conversion) – Washington, DC
This design-build project converted the vacant, 80,000 square-foot Merritt Middle School building into the new 6th District headquarters for the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in Washington, DC. The completed project includes an office building, support spaces, a gymnasium and community room, on-site parking, extensive site improvements and environmentally sustainable landscaping. christopher provided a range of services including site planning, stormwater management, construction administration, and civil LEED design and documentation. The christopher team also coordinated with DDOT to allow the addition of a new curb off of 50th Place NE. Utility design was also provided, including water main upgrade and public right-of-way.
This project won an Award of Excellence in 2016 from NAIOP DC in the category ‘Best Renovation and Adaptive Re-Use.’
